A Windows Update (probably in conjunction with a PoS virus scanner) screwed my development workstation for good, and now I can't start IS 2010 at all. isdev and ProtectionProcessorCleanup processes appear in Task Manager, but nothing else happens. The icon flashes for a moment in the Windows 7 taskbar, but it goes away quite soon. I'm about to reinstall the machine, but first I'd need to get into InstallShield to return the license to avoid activation problems on the new installations. Any tips on how to get it back up and running? I've already tried repairing the installation.
System restore didn't work, but I found a workaround. I had to set the compatibility mode to Vista SP2 (I'm running 7 Enterprise) and then it would start just fine. Trying in XP compatibility mode or without any compatibility didn't work.
