Attaching an Icon to an Associated file

I need to associate an icon with a file type. I am installing the EXE that "runs" when I "Open" the associated file. The association works but I'd like the Icon to display when the associated file is displayed in the Windows Explorer, and when it appears in as an Attachment in Emails.

Thanks.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\\DefaultIcon

What I'm looking for is the Icon to be displayed if a file the program acts upon is displayed. For example,

We have a file we send out to clients that has an extension of:

.dictionary

I'd like it to have an icon when you see it as a file in the file manager or as an attachment in an email. The EXE that acts on the file has the icon built in- but I'm fine with also distributing the .ico file if I can get this to work.
