Linux to support something similar to window registry key and value
As part of multi platform installation. The installer creates, update a windows registry key and value, during installation and reinstallation in windows platform.
this registry entry doesn't depend on any component in the product. But the status of the product.
So during reinstall, the installer executes some task based on the registry key and value pair. And update the registry to keep track of it.
Is it possible like this in linux environment. One possible solution is,writing to a file in the install folder. But I want to know any other possible solution is possible.

IA maintains it's own registry on any platform (including Unices) in a form of an XML files called .com.zerog.registry.xml, which is located either in the user's home for a non-root user or in /var if installation has been performed as root.
