How you check the product version number during the upgrade?

Hi.
I see in the XML project file there are four variables which define the product version number
productVersionMajor,
productVersionMinor,
productVersionRevision,
productVersionSubRevision.

How you check them during the upgrade?

use $PRODUCT_VERSION_NUMBER$
