Information about how to use UHD
Hi,
We are planning to build our application to use UHD option.
Where can I find more information about this?
- how to enable this option while building the application/tool?
- how to enable this while creating license?
- what are the pros and cons of using UHD?
Regards,
Navdeep

By "UHD" do you mean user-host-display duplicate grouping (multiple license checkouts from the same user on the same host and display count as only one use), or something else?
If that's the sort of UHD you mean, please see DUP_GROUP in the Programming Reference for License File-based Licensing (fnp_PR-LF.pdf). You can either specify DUP_GROUP policy in your license rights (INCREMENT lines) or specify the policy in the lc_checkout call.
If you're using FlexNet Operations to generate the licenses, you can use a feature's "client uniqueness" setting, or specify the setting in a served, counted license model.

Hi
I observe, there is no DUP_GROUP (UHD = user, host, display) specified in the license, but the license check-outs are exceeding the installed number of licenses.
Is this possible?
If YES, could you let me know how is it possible to use more licenses than installed no. of licenses?
Thanks in advance for the information.

Could you post an example of an existing license (INCREMENT line) and how the count is being exceeded?

Hi,
I have changed some text, but the syntax remains same
INCREMENT feature vendordaemon version 03-sep-2011 20 \
ABCDedf123456789 VENDOR_STRING=XXXXXX \
ISSUED= SIGN2="xxxx xxxx xxxx \
xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx xxxx \
xxxx xxxx xxxx
When we observe the compressed 0 seconds count, it is ok, but uncompressed 0 seconds count is higher than the no. of licenses (20).
We don't see the UHD in the license and in addition to this same user when runs the new job (in addition to currently running job (1 job) from same host and display, an additional license is checked out.
So, it is a bit confusing to me to understand the UHD concept (various ways it can be implemented).
Thank you in advance.

Hi,
We tested the following with lmstat
Stage 1: (Same user, host, display) (16 out of 20 lic in use)
- two jobs started simultaneously
- two individual licenses checked out (now 18 out of 20 lic in use)
Stage 2: (Same user, host, display)
- one more job in addition to the above started (19 out of 20 in use)
- started the 4th job (20 out of 20 in use)
Stage 3: (Same user, host, display)
- started the 5th job
- the job was able to start (we expected a denial)
- lmstat does not show any new check-out
vendor/lmgrd version is v11.5

Is this an application that you developed? What does the call to lc_checkout look like?
That behavior is indeed surprising. Are stages 1-3 all on the same system, or different systems? On the system used in step 3, does lmpath point to any uncounted (node-locked) licenses?

Hi,
It was from the same system (I had mentioned in my previous email "same host").
anyways, the vendor does not exist anymore, so nothing much can be done.
Anyways, we plan to not use these tools anymore.
Thank you for the information shared.
