We are introducing Oracle Java recognition via Installer Evidence as separate applications. Most recently, in April 2023 as mentioned here, we made a change to have Java detected only via File Evidence and all installer evidence were mapped to ‘Oracle Java Unmanaged application’ whose classification is none in current ARL.

In scenarios where customers use Inventory without File Evidence, there is no visibility into the installations of Oracle Java. Due to Oracle GLAS requirements, a full Java inventory requires only File Evidence. This is why we continue to use Oracle Java File Evidence detection.
With the upcoming updates, visibility in Java can again be done through Installer Evidence when only Installer Evidence is available. This requirement was brought to us by customers and partners.
We are not making any changes to the PURL (Product Use Right Library) or Bundles for now. If the Oracle Java application discovered via Installer Evidence is to be used within the licenses, these Java Installer Evidence applications must be manually added to the license.

Classification should be kept as "none" until PURL and Bundles have been updated.

For all customers using File Evidence for Java, this change may be very disturbing. There are two main possibilities:

- manage your Java bundles manually, adding "Java Platform for Installer Evidence" application in your licenses, as a supplementary product.

- ignore all (source = Flexera) Oracle Java Installer Evidence that are perturbing you, especially commercial installer when Java is embedded.
