shortcuts of previous version not getting deleted while upgrading

Hi all
I am using windows xp. Shortcuts of previous version is not getting deleted while I am upgrading to higher version. I have added the previous shortcut to the remove table but not able to delete the previous shortcuts. Can anyone guide what I need to do to get the result.
