Update Service does not work at all
I have two problems with Update Service Starter Edition
Although i registered the product (out of installshield X Express) and an update (http://services.installshield.com/),
1. After Setup --> check for available updates: error 13001 occurs
2. the update manager does not find any updates
i use Installshield X express sp2 for my Setup

Check your product code that you entered in the Update Service site.
Here is the reference to the error code.
http://helpnet.installshield.com/robo/projects/isus40/Error_handling_and_propagation.htm
13001: Product code is not registered on the Update Service Publisher Web site.

the productcode is ok.
Error 13001 comes only during setup (at the end).
The really strange thing is that the update manager always says that there is no update available.
it seems all so easy to implement, but it does not work.
is there any kind of logging?

The starter accounts are not able to use the agent APIs, but must rely upon the Program Manager. So the error message you see about not registered is a reflection of that.
To properly "see" the update, the version number must exactly match the expected value you had set in the website. For example, if you created an update in the site targeted to your version "1.00" (the version you had created in the site), then your setup must've created the product/version locally with that same "1.00". If it used 1.00.00, then the update will not be found.
If you have not already done so, please submit your issue to the support staff as they may be able to figure out what is happening quite quickly.
Regards,
Kelly
