It seemed to me that Dynamic File Linking on each component would automatically pick up any new items. Now I have to manually scan from each components file list before I do a build or the dynamic files are not added to the install. Every time the project is loaded, not just the first time with the new items. I have InstallShield 2018 R2.

Is there a way to have the .NET install be included inside the install.exe, or does it always have to go in a separate folder? If I include the .NET Framework as part of the Redistributables, I end up with an install.exe and another folder called ISSetupPrerequisites.

Still happens with Installshield 2013. All I can do is keep rebuilding and it may randomly select some other file that it cannot extract an icon from (that definitely does have an icon), and eventually get a build to go through without changing anything other than the earth rotating. Happens on three different computers in three different locations and has happened since Installshield 2010.

I don't know how you could make upgrading software any more difficult. Between maintenance numbers, maintenance serial numbers, which are different from the software serial numbers, usernames, passwords, you make this an all afternoon event for our programming staff. We always end up calling support and resetting something on at least one of our development machines. Two of us are doing an upgrade and neither one of us can proceed until we get yet another serial number that is different from the fifteen other serial model user password maintenance registration plan verification identifiers!

Thanks. I also randomly get an error extracting an icon for a shortcut during a build. I just rebuild again and eventually get no errors!

It seems to happen less often if I change the release properties for the Compression -> Cab Optimization Type to 'None'.

Without changing the project properties in any manner, sometimes that error pops up and sometimes it doesn't. Most of the time I can fix it by closing out InstallShield and then opening it up again. I am thinking Windows might just randomly fail on the call to create a temporary directory. Thanks

Does anyone else have this error pop up at the end of a build? This is extremely frustrating!! I have to reboot, and not start up any other apps, then cross my fingers and hope that I can get a build to go through. I have an Installscript MSI project making a Compressed release. At the very end of the build, it tries to create a temporary folder and fails.

I have been searching for the GUID in the registry and deleting the entries that refer to the GUID. When you locate the GUID in the registry, there may be some folders that the registry entries refer to, and I delete them as well to clean things up. I found a different uninstall string for my product at this location: "SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\Uninstall\\InstallShield_" + szInstalledProductCode If I execute that uninstall string, then the product seems to be getting removed completely.

The uninstall leaves an entry in add/remove programs, and if I try to remove the program now, I get an error message '1628: Failed to complete installation'

Our ancient version of Installshield Express would automatically clear the read-only flag of all the files that we install. Is there any way to do that from Installshield 2008? We are installing several hundred files in multiple folders, so not very simple to go through all that with a SetFileInfo call.
