Using Uninstall Shortcut results in Error 1605

I'm using an InstallScript MSI project and had it generate the uninstall shortcut. When uninstall using either the original setup file or via Add/Remove programs all works great. However if I use the uninstall shortcut, it still uninstall but I'm forever in limbo after that as any subsequent install attempts think that the program is still installed and Modify/Repair/Remove all result in:

"Error: -1605 This action is only valid for products that are currently installed"

Any suggestions?
