Uninstallable Patches

Hi,

Is it possible to create uninstallable patches using InstallShield 2010 Pro?
The Installshield Help says its is supported for InstallScript MSI.
But when tried, its giving a warning that patches Traditional Style InstallScript MSi won't be dispalyed in Add/remove programs and cannot be uninstalled.

Please let me know whether we can fix this issue.

Thanks,
Ramesh

Please see the help topic "Using the InstallScript Engine as an External vs. Embedded UI Handler for InstallScript MSI Installations". The "traditional" InstallScript MSI interface requires setup.exe, and that type seems it wouldn't support an uninstallable patch.

I haven't tried it, but the newer embedded UI doesn't require setup.exe, so I imagine that type would support uninstallable patches.

Hi Robert,
Thanks for the reply.

Is there a work around for this issue without changing the UI style from "Traditional" to "New".

But why the Installshield Help document says its supports Patch Uninstallation ???

Hi, Ramesh,

I don't know of a workaround, though it makes some sense that uninstallable patches (a Windows Installer feature) wouldn't work when going through setup.exe/update.exe (a "traditional" InstallScript MSI requirement).

If someone has different information, I hope they'll speak up here...

Robert
