String Editor \n question

Hi all,
I have following in my string editor for a string:
\new\xyz

where INSTALLDIR is c:\test

But at runtime it expands to
c:\test
ew\xyz.

It interprets \n in \new as newline.
I tried to use \\new\xyz\
but no luck.
please help.
