SQL Server 2008 R2 Redistributable doesn't install on Windows 8

Hello,

On Windows 8, if you have a redistributable of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express it won't install, it throws a CasPol.exe error. If you go into Add / Remove Programs and enabled the 3.5 framework it works fine. All other OS's including SQL Server 2008 R2 Express as a redistributable works fine, just doesn't work on Windows 8 with 3.5 .NET Framework disabled.

Does anyone know how I could enable the 3.5 .NET Framework somehow on Windows 8 prior to the SQL Server 2008 R2 Express install? By including 3.5 .NET Framework as a redistributable and running on Windows 8, it never installs or enables that feature.

Thanks.

If you haven't already, you'll want to try the updated prerequisite in KB Q210041.

I guess SQL server 2008 is not supported in windows 8 It stops at windows 7. You need to install SQL server 2012 redist. I too tried the same and then installed 2012 and it went through fine.
