SQL Database Best Practices

Can someone please tell me what the best practice is for SQL database distribution and uninstallation?

Currently our installer deploys a database, runs some sql scripts and the application deployed uses this database. Common scenario I'm sure.

When the user chooses to uninstall our product, I backup and then drop the database. There is still a copy of the database (via backup file) should the user decide they need to see the data again. Is this correct procedure, or should the uninstall leave the database on their system?

Can someone tell me if I am following best practice, or where I can read best practice for this scenario?
