Problem with multiple language strings in registry

I'm migrating an installer (InstallScript) from IS Prof 6.3 to IS 2009. The installation involves creating a registry key with a string value for each language supported by our application.

But I have this problem editing the values. The Japanese character are all converted to "???" and European characters are either garbled or converted to normal English characters (for example, æ is turned to e, é to e, and ä to a). I've tried editing the string in the registry view, direct editor, and I've also tried importing the registry keys. But nothing's working... 😞 The string tables also have these special characters but they are displaying properly during installation so I don't understand why it couldn't set properly in the registry.

What am I doing wrong? Please help...

Oops, my mistake. It wasn't a problem with the installer at all.
I installed multiple language pack in my system. It was only later that I realized I also need to set the international system configuration using the intlcfg.exe tool. Everything works fine now... 🙂
