On-demand installation is a feature of Windows Installer, and InstallShield has supported it (in MSI-based projects) as far back as I remember. Its primary advantage is a smaller disk footprint (and corresponding shorter initial install time) before someone uses an application, traded off against primary disadvantages including a delay to install it when someone first uses it and the chance the installation media will be inaccessible at that time. It's also a more complicated scenario, so testing it is more difficult. You might find more information about it in our help or in MSDN, searching for terms like On-demand or Advertised.
