Installing and pdating from the web and new features
I'm working on a proof of concept.
We're looking at doing installations and updates from the web.
The test involves 2 versions: v1 and v2.
v1 has 1 feature.
v2 updates some files and adds a new feature.
The URLs for the 2 versions are different.
A clean install of v1 from the internet works correctly. It's one feature gets installed.
A clean install of v2 from the internet works as expected. By this I mean that during the intial install I only install one of the available features. I then go to Add/Remove/Modify and add the other feature. It gets added correctly without any prompting for the source location.
However, doing an upgrade install to v2 from the internet has problems. The components that were installed with v1 are updated to v2. I then go to Add/Remove/Modify and the new feature in v2 is displayed. However, when I attempt to add the new feature Windows Installer prompts me for the source location. No URL that I enter seems to work.
Is this a workable solution?
What is the correct way of doing this?
Thank you for your help.

I upgraded to Windows Installer 4.5 and the problem was fixed.
