Installer Newbie looking for help creating an MSI.
Installer Newbie looking for help creating an MSI.
I need to make an MSI package that contains a NIC driver installer that is already an MSI.. What I would like to do is load all the install files in the new MSI and define a custom install action that will start the internal MSI installer. Can I do this, and if so how??
Thanks,
Ron N. - HP

It's possible (see custom action types.) Also 2009 has the new msi chaining feature which requires windows installer 4.5.

Installing a nested msi (an msi inside another msi) used to be possible through standard custom actions, but they have been deprecated for some time now as they cause more harm than good.
You'll want to look into the msi chaining in windows installer 4.5, or roll your own bootstrapper that will execute the two msi files one after another.
