Incompatibilit Issue

Hi,

I am working on InstallShield 2010. I have a installer which works fine on Windows 2003, 2008, XP but when i run the same installer on Windows 2008 R2 or R2 Hyper-V the installer fails.

Following is the message:

" Installation success or error status: 1603."

I tried running this in compatibility mode in R2 and Hyper-V but still it fails. I have also updated the InstallShield with SP1.

I am understanding the problem.

What is the solution for this?

You need to find out why your setup fails. Generate a verbose log file (http://www.msifaq.com/a/1022.htm)

Above is the part of log file. I am not able to undestand why is it rolling back from the logs

That part only shows the ultimate outcome - installation failed.
Search for "return value 3" from here upwards to see which operation cause the failure.

So it looks like its failing inside the ISXmlInstall custom action, which is a built-in custom action that processes the XML file changes. Scroll up a few lines to see if there are any hints between the start and the end of the ISXmlInstall action.
Other things you could try:
Double check your XML file settings and permissions on the XML file, maybe use ProcessMonitor from Microsoft-SysInternals to see if there are any access denied errors.
