Error 1001 when we give custom INSTALLDIR during major upgrade

We got error 1001 , when custom installdir path is given during major upgrade installation.
Normal base installation works fine.
Major upgrade fails in the place of component dll file as we set .net installer class to Yes.

Can anyone of you please provide me some solution for this issue.

I'm having the same issue with a setup built with InstallShield Premier v12. During a major upgrade, if the path for the existing installation is not used, Error 1001 occurs. Did you ever resolve this?
