Custom Prerequisite for .Net 3.5 (x86)

See attached prerequisite (prq) file.

You need to download the full .Net 3.5 kit (not the network one)

http://download.microsoft.com/download/6/0/f/60fc5854-3cb8-4892-b6db-bd4f42510f28/dotnetfx35.exe

Put the dotnetfx35.exe file you downloaded in C:\Program Files\Macrovision\IS2008\SetupPrerequisites\Microsoft .net\3.5 Custom\x86\dotnetfx35.exe

You can put it some place else but you need to edit the PRQ file if you do.

Copy the PRQ file attached into C:\Program Files\Macrovision\IS2008\SetupPrerequisites and strip the .txt extenstion

Then go into redistributable in InstallShield and check off "Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Custom"

I suggest not putting it in the setup.exe because it's huge. I use "copy from source media" (Right Click on prereq and choose properties to set).

I tried my best to make it not conflict with the official one for when InstallShield gets around to it.

This does not do a network install

It will prompt to install the first time if it's not installed and it will exit before moving onto the rest of the install (i.e. you have to run your install twice the first time if it's not installed). It will not uninstall it on uninstall of your product. It will not prompt again once installed.

I tested on Vista and XP. Both first install and repeated installs.

As a warning, I only took a quick glance, but it looks like this PRQ will not address the potential for an unexpected/undesired OS reboot on Windows Vista RTM as described by Aaron Stebner on http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2007/11/13/6190778.aspx. While probably a rare occurrence, the worst case side effects sound pretty rotten.

All the more reason for InstallShield to come up with a better one !!!

Anyway, the safest thing in my opinion is to tell user to ignore it the update reboot box. It's no worse than VS2008 install.

We are working on a PRQ. It should be out soon. If you want to try it ahead of the offical release, please let me know and I can try to get you a beta drop of it.

Thanks,
Mike

We are working on an application that will need to ship in late January but we are building the install now to test. I would like to get a copy of the PRQ from you to test until the final version comes out.

Thanks,

Eric

Any chance of a PRQ for the VC9 runtime files too?

We have a patch for InstallShield 2008 that will add the vc9 Merge Modules to our product so you can consume them.

Is that what you are looking for?

You can download the Merge Modules here:

http://saturn.installshield.com/product/is/2008/domestic/Vc2008MM/VS2008VC9MSMs.ZIP

Modules.ini needs to go to

C:\Program Files\Macrovision\IS2008\Support\0409

All the rest should go to

C:\Program Files\Macrovision\IS2008\Modules\i386
