Activation of InstallShield 2013 Express

Jump to solution

Dear all,

A companion app of our production suite is installed using an installer built with InstallShield 2013 Express. My company has a pair of serial numbers for this product.

Entering the serial numbers through the wizard that appears when starting InstallShield fails because the license server is offline.

I sent an e-mail containing an XML string to "offlineactivations@installshield.com" as suggested by the wizard, but have not received a response after a few weeks.

I sent an e-mail containing a "license.request" to "oactivations@flexerasoftware.com" as suggested on one of the pages here, but have not received a response after a few days.

I attempted to open a support case as suggested on one of the pages here, but I seem to be unable to do so.

How to proceed from here? Is there some other way to get in touch with a Flexera employee?

Kind regards,

Remy Kaufmann

The below message was sent to users in February 2022, so you need to purchase a new version.

Important: InstallShield Activation Service Discontinued

We are informing you that the InstallShield Activation Service will be discontinued and no longer available starting July 1, 2022. The InstallShield Activation Service is used to support the reactivation logic required to continue using InstallShield versions 2013 or older.

Once the Activation Service has been discontinued, affected versions of InstallShield will not be able to reactivate their licenses and will become inoperable. Until then you may continue to use InstallShield 2013 or older. As always, we hope you are successful with our products!

We are sure you understand that technology changes rapidly. And while Revenera does a lot to support customers on end-of-life versions, as time passes and more customers move to modern versions of InstallShield, you may experience more changes in the future by choosing to stay on versions of InstallShield 2013 and older.

To avoid being impacted by these changes and ensure uninterrupted use of InstallShield, we advise users of InstallShield 2013 or older to upgrade to the latest version.

Personally I think this is a disgraceful step for any company to take, forcing people to buy an upgrade which they don't want is just totally wrong.  When I bought this product there was no indication that I would be forced to do this, it did say that they would withdraw support but nothing at all that I would no longer be able to install and use it.  I was under the impression that I could use it forever and had no idea it had only a 10-year life.

On one hand, I agree with you. On the other hand, I think it's not a good idea to use 10 year old software anyway, that hasn't got any (security) updates for a long time. Like Windows 8 may still run, but you shouldn't use it in a production environment.

Anyway, I'm just the bearer of (bad) news. The decision was made by Flexera/Revenera.

Don't worry it's not really bad news.  We had already decided to go with a different product from a company which has a better understanding of customer service.
