use of product version

Is there a way where I can make use of 'version' information in
'Project->Description->Version' ?
Can I access this version through any variable?

Quoting from the manual:

"$PRODUCT_VERSION_NUMBER$
Resolves to the value of the Product Version in the Project | Description task
This variable is read-only"

Is there any way where we can overwrite the INSTALLER NAME value during building the installer?
