or i can use .class/ .jar files also

My understanding is that that action supports only Windows service executables. A web search shows that there exist some wrappers that can wrap Java applications into service executables, but I believe the InstallAnywhere service actions do not do this automatically.

I need to deploy a java class as a service and I'm using a special wrapper for that.
you can find a free version in:http://wrapper.tanukisoftware.org/doc/english/download.jsp
notice it's license though-you might need to buy it.
If you find a better alternative I'll be happy to hear 😉

yes... i have tried this wrapper .. its quite good also..
but its not free 😞
i searched a bit on net.. but couldnt find anything better..
is it possible to write it ourselves ?
(or that would be too tough job !?)
One question: then what the Install as a service action in Installanywhere do then ?
if i use it.. i can see the service in the services window .. but not able to to start the service ! ?

I use it. But I don't use the IA service installation, I use .cmd scripts for installation/deinstallation. Works good.
License is described on the project webside.

If it's the URL posted by tfromm1, the license for that software is dual: BSD License and GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL). This basically means that this software is free for you to use, even to incorporate in your commercial project (both BSD & LGPL) without making you to GPL your code (because it's LGPL), the only requirement is to give credit to the authors (and to include these licenses).
