End-user: Flexnet installation from multiple vendors
My company uses a number of applications for which FlexNet/FlexLM is the licensing method. Over time we've accumulated quite a few different install folders for the FlexNet Utilities and Tools, since each vendor tends to install differently. While I understand that each vendor's daemon is unique, the default Macrovision programs, namely lmtools, lmutil, and lmgrd, appear to be identical and should likely be updated as a set to maintain compatibility.
Is there a recommeded installation location for the three programs mentioned? Would it be safe to manually place them in a common location?
Thanks!

The rules about FLEXnet Licensing version compatibility are summarized as:
Version of lmutil/LMTOOLS must be >=
Version of lmgrd, which must be >=
Version of vendor daemon, which must be >=
Version of the client library linked to the FLEXenabled application, which must be >= Version of license file format
So keeping a single copy of the LMTOOLS is a good idea assuming you make sure that you get the latest from globes.com. The latest lmutil and lmgrd will work with all vendor daemons.
Unfortunately with all the flexibility that FLEX provides, software publishers have been free to install the components all over the place. Maybe some one with practical experience as a License Administrator that has given this some thought will add to the discussion with some Best Practices.
