How can we get the user geographical location/IP Address of the users using licenses from FNO Production Website?

Hi All,

We are using FNE License.  We are using concurrent license model.  We are able to see the user's information i.e. Machine Name and Ethernet ID using 'View Served Devices' page in Device section.

How can we get the User geographical location of the user from FNO Production Website or using any Public services?

Hi, you can only collect and see vendor dictionary information in FlexNet Operations for devices that communicate directly with FlexNet Operations (node-locked use cases). This is not the case for served devices that communicate to a local or cloud license server.

Note one method would be to put the geographical location/IP address of the served client in the vendor dictionary field of the capability requests to the license server.  Although you cannot view the served client vendor dictionary in either the FlexNet Operations Customer or Producer Portals it can be extracted via the Reporting Tool using the FlexNet Embedded Served Client Features Universe.  If this is not available to you then you could submit a ticket to have this added. 

If you are using a Cloud server then this served client information will automatically be collected.  If a local server is used then the server must be to synced with FlexNet Operations in order to pull this information back.

As per the User Guide 'FNE_CXTUserGuide_2020R3.pdf', the vendor data can be added to  'capability Request' and can send to back office/ license server, the back office supposed to send the same vendor info in the response as well.

But, unfortunately, this mechanism is not working, means, we can send vendor information as a custom data to back office, but in the response the vendor data is empty/Null, which is contradictory to the description given in User Guide

Hi @Ravikiran ,

The documentation needs to be improved in this area.  By default FlexNet Operations will not return client-populated vendor dictionary items in the capability responses.  This would need to be implemented using a custom callout.  Please refer to: https://community.flexera.com/t5/FlexNet-Embedded-Forum/How-can-we-implement-vendor-dictionary-And-What-is-the/m-p/164880
