set Install location

I am trying to set Install location of a component as - $E(PATH).but it is not working.can any one help me out.
I want to install a component in system path.

Is there a specific error? Could it be that $E(PATH) resolves to a list of directories instead of a single directory? If so, perhaps test with $E(OTHER_DIR), where OTHER_DIR is a variable you set to a single location...

But i want to use the 'PATH' system variable so i can install the component in C:\WINDOWS\system32 in xp and C:\WINNT\system32 in 2000.
