I recently heard of the new Multi Package Transaction feature available in Windows Installer 4.5, and wondered if it is possible to take advantage of it in IS2008? If not, is support due to be implemented in the near future? We have been trying to find a solution to the problem of installing separate packages in one installer for a while, and this looks to be exactly what we're looking for.
That is correct. IS2008 should make it possible for you to write all the extra plumbing (at minimum a new MSI table and executable) to take advantage of multi package transactions, but if you want an easier solution from us, you'll have to wait for a future release. 🙂
