I've been fighting with this for about a day and a half now. I have a Basic MSI project and I need to install the VC Redistributables somehow. I have tried including it from the Redistributables but that seems to require a Setup.exe rather than a Setup.msi. Just for kicks, I extracted the vcredist.msi and vcredist1.cab from the vcredist_x86.exe. By extracting the MSI and CAB file I was finally able to install it as a Nested MSI but I am then stuck with a multi-file installer and that just won't work very well. I've even tried installing these two files on the client PC as part of our installation and launching the vcredist.msi from there but I got some errors with doing that.
Is it possible to install the VC Redistributables from within a Basic MSI and still build only a single Setup.msi executable? If so, how can this be done?
