Updating install application without FlexNet Connect

I have an application I install using InstallShield 2011 Spring Professional.
I want to enable Update Notifications, but to host my own updates. There's a "Host" field under Update Notifications in the Installation Information view.

My questions are:

What does the host address point to? Is it another product from Flexera, just one I run on my own servers?

Alternatively, if the host address leads to my own hosting and my own applications, what needs to be there? Does the updating agent know to look at, say, XML files and deduce what the necessary updates are from there?

I tried going over the documentation but I'm afraid I got lost...

Correct, InstallShield's Update Notifications view refers to our FlexNet Connect product. FlexNet Connect does give you the option to host your own updates, but if you're hosting updates without using FlexNet Connect, you wouldn't use that view.

What view would help me with this, then?

If you're using your own notification mechanism, it's up to you how to represent and store its configuration, so there's no specific view (if any) you would use for it.
