Required upgrade type when removing component

Hi

I do have an InstallScript MSI project.

When I do want to remove a component from an existing feature during an update, which kind of upgrade do I have to use (to prevent a repair install to the previous version)? Does it have to be a major upgrade?

Correct, you'll need to use a major upgrade in that case. According to the Windows Installer help topic "Changing the Product Code":
The product code must be changed if any of the following are true for the update: [...] A component is removed from an existing feature.
