NOT delete certain files Major Upgrade

Support is terrible. I can't get answers from them on how to do things in Minor Upgrade so being forced to do Major Upgrade. How do I get major Upgrade NOT to delete certain files (such as existing database etc...) or how to back these up first?

What kind of project are you using?

1. If you are using a Basic MSI, the only I know of to not delete files on uninstall is by marking them permanent.

2. You would have to write custom actions to backup and/or restore any files that you want to keep.
