I've been having some issues lately with COM advertisement causing undesired repairs. Does InstallShield have the ability to extract COM ( either at build time or at design time ) and then author it using only the Registry table? I know 2009 will use Registry for Typelib entries but I think I'm pretty much on board with Rob Mensching now in that I don't want to use the Class and ProgId tables either.
InstallShield does not have this option currently, although I don't think it would be all that difficult to add. But before jumping directly to an enhancement request, can I probe a little more about whether these repairs are in fact invalid? "Undesired" is a little too fuzzy of a word for me, at least around Windows Installer. 🙂
