ISEXP : error : -6416: Internal build error

Hi

As a new user of Installshield Limited Edition, I created a very simple VB application to try out Installshield. This comprised a project to display a Windows form. To this I added a Installshield Limited Edition project.

I used Project Assistant to specify my basic requirements.
However, whenever I try to create a shortcut from which the user can launch the application the build fails with:

ISEXP : error : -6416: Internal build error

Any Ideas?

I would like to know two things,firstly if this build error occurs only on creating shortcuts and secondly if you have admininstrator privileges.

Also, kindly provide the entire build log that would be helpful in finding the reason for this error.

Yes, the problem only occurs when I attempt to include a shortcut.

Yes, I do have administrator privileges.

I notice from the build log that the installation aborts on reaching the shortcut table that points towards the cause of the build error.

I am working on this issue and I should have further information in a day's time.

Could you please confirm if you have Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 SP1 installed or not? Also, request you to create a simple installer and create a shortcut to check if the build error 6416 occurs even in a new project.

Add a Windows form project, which simply displays a form on the screen.

Add an InstallShield LE Project

Use Project Assistant to

Accept Default Application Information

Accept Default Installation Requirements

In Application Files
Select Add Project Outputs
And tick Primary Output

Add no Application Shortcuts

Add No Application Registry Entries

Accept Default Installation Interview Selections

Select Build Solution - Works Fine.

Select Install on Setup Project

This installation produces no shortcuts to program from Desktop or Program list
But program works by clicking the exe file in program files.

Select Application Shortcuts

Select ‘New’

Select Program Files Folder

Select Company Name

Select Project Name

Select Primary Output

‘Built’ appears in box and ‘Create Shortcut in Start Menu’ is ticked.

Rename ‘Built’ to ‘SetupTest’

Build Project Fails with
Error 2 -6416: Internal build error ISEXP : error : -6416: Internal build error

I have followed the exact steps as mentioned by you and was able to build the project successfully without the build error 6416.

I suspect that this could also be machine specific, kindly try installing Visual Studio on a different machine and check if the same issue persists. Also, create a new administrator account to test the new project.

I shall try a fresh installation of Visual Studio and InstallShield on a test machine, see if this works and report back the result.
