Error 1316 with log file

Hi,

I ran into 1316 error when running an installer. The installer is a stripped version of a product (say Prod), it only updates data files, so I call it 'DataOnly'. We have tried to make 'DataOnly' completely unrelated to 'Prod', product name, upgrade code, product code, have been changed in DataOnly, the package code is automatically changed in each build. BUT, we are using the same Components for the data files (same name/code/etc.).

We also tried to make DataOnly do fresh install always, i.e. no maintenance or upgrade (any kind). The changes may or may not be related to the error though.

When I installed 'DataOnly', I got 1316 error saying error trying to read 'Prod.msi' (but not DataOnly.msi). In the log file I found "Package name retrieved from configuration data: 'Prod.msi'", why is that and how to fix it?

Thanks,
Peter

This error occurs when the new .msi filename doesn't match the old .msi filename. I'm looking for a programmatic means of fixing this too, but for now, the only way I know of is to ensure that you don't change .msi filenames between releases.

Does anybody have any good answers about error 1316?

The [ProductName] for the previous release was " "

The [ProductName] for this release should be " SP1". I set the MSI file name

I need the change the [ProductName] property so that the upgrade will be reflected in Add/Remove Programs. I use the "MSI Package Name" field in the release view to keep the msi file name consistent with the previous minor revision.

For some reason however, running in maintenance mode still tries to load " " this takes some control out of the hands of the package author, does it not? what can be done?!!?!!?
