Convert Virtual Directory Component to Application Component

We recently upgraded to IS2010 after seing how IS2009 websites / vdirs / applications appear in IIS7 ( dupes ). IS 2010 now allows a web site to have applications and virtual directories as children. Is there a way to convert an existing virtual directory into an application?

The mappings from legacy types to new types in the ISIISItem table can be found in the following thread:
http://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?t=189325

As mentioned in that thread, each type is flagged as legacy by OR'ing its value with 0x80000000.

You can also change a virtual directory to an application by changing its type value.
