Compatibility with older versions of Installshield
I currently have a copy of Installshield 2012. If I bought a license for 2012 spring edition, can I import/export any projects I make between the two versions? (I attempted to test it using a trial version of 2012 Spring, but was unable to figure out how to export back to the previous version.)

Hi,
when you convert the project from one type to another then there will an back made with the name ".765" if you remove the .765 from the name then you will have the previous version of the ISM

Thanks for replying. I'm afraid I didn't quite understand, however. I currently have a file named Project1.ism, created using Spring 2012. To allow me to read this file in Installshield 2012 (NOT Spring, the old edition), I would.....convert the file to a different type, locate the backup, and rename it?
I tried going to "Project-> Project Converters-> Convert to Installscript Project", and while it certainly did create a backup, the file extension of the backup was .PreConversion , not .765 .
What steps, exactly, should I take?

Hi ,
What i have observed in my experiance is i hav ean install shield 12 version project and when i try to open it automatically prompts me wether to convert the project and if i say yes then it automaticall creates an backup with the name.ism.768
and if i want to convert it back to the orginal then i delete or move the ism file and then rename the name.ism.768 to name.ism which will be the project that has been not converted

The following help topic has details:
Upgrading Projects from InstallShield 2012 or Earlier
You can open an old project in a new version of InstallShield. When you do that, InstallShield updates the schema version and the table data of the project file for the new version of InstallShield. Once a project has been upgraded to a newer version of InstallShield, it cannot be downgraded back to an older version.
As CHANDINATHREDDY noted, you can take the backup file that InstallShield creates when you upgrade a project, remove the .773 file extension (or whatever number is used for the backup copy), and then open that project in the older version of InstallShield; however, this is just a backup copy of the original project file. It does not contain any changes that are made in the newer version of InstallShield.
