Check if MS patch is installed

What's the proper way to check if a Windows patch is applied to a workstation. I want to prevent users from installing my application if KB886903 is not installed on their workstations.

You could query if the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\KBxxxxx exists or not
