Acresso's Robert Dickau is Presenting a Webinar

On February 11, Acresso’s Robert Dickau will broadcast a Webinar entitled “7 Things You Can’t Do with Visual Studio Deployment Projects”.

Robert, an installation expert and major contributor to the InstallShield communities, will demo key features of InstallShield. So even if you're already using InstallShield instead of the Visual Studio deployment capabilities, you'll still benefit from attending this webinar.

For more information and to register, click here: http://mktg.acresso.com/mk/get/7thingsVS?mc=www

Hope you can attend.

Installshield has been into existence for very long time, I am not sure whats the purpose of this low level webinar? perhaps a webinar on internals of MSI or Install shield would help the community more.

Just my suggestions.

Thanks for the feedback. This webinar was aimed at newcomers to the InstallShield world, but mentioned here in case someone new to things would find it useful.

We do occasionally have webinars based on new InstallShield features, new technologies, etc., of interest to longer-term users; a list of existing ones is here: http://www.acresso.com/downloads/downloads_6175.htm.

Thanks,

Robert

Robert,

You should run a validation against a visual studio generated package for your audience. When developers can't understand what more I can bring over their generated visual studio packages I run a windows validation against it to show them how bad they really are and how many of Microsoft's own best practices they actually break. One other point I make too is the level of GUI dialog configuration I can offer the end user over a visual studio one.

I tend to refer to these vs packages as vending machine packages. They're quick and easy but full of rubbish. If you're targeting developers too, one thing i find that they are impressed with is the SDK for the standalone build engine and they also love the app-v and one click installs too

Good luck with that 😄
