Licensing Overview for InstallAnywhere 2011 and Later

Licensing Overview for InstallAnywhere 2011 and Later

Summary

This article explains how to obtain the license file and full product from the Product & License Center, and how to register the InstallAnywhere product with the license file.

Synopsis

Starting with InstallAnywhere 2011, the registration/licensing of the product has changed compared to prior versions. Registration of the product (node-locked or concurrent licensing models) requires a license file which can be obtained through the Flexera Software Product and License Center.

This article explains how to obtain the license file and full product from the Product and License Center and how to register the InstallAnywhere product with the license file.

Discussion

Step 1: Obtaining and Installing InstallAnywhere

When your InstallAnywhere purchase is made, an account is created for your organization, a user account for the purchaser is added to the account in the Product and License Center, and a welcome e-mail message with sign-in credentials is sent to the purchaser.

* If you are the purchaser of the product, you can sign in to the Product and License Center with the credentials that are included in the welcome e-mail message.

* If you are not the purchaser and a user account has not been added to the account for you, you can request a login by visiting the Join New Account page and entering your Account ID (which is included in the order confirmation email the purchaser received initially).

* If you purchased the product from a reseller and you have not received a welcome e-mail message for the Product and License Center, visit http://flexerasoftware.force.com/register and complete the form to register your serial number. Shortly after you have completed the form, a welcome email message will be sent to you. You need this email message before you can continue to the next step of this process.

Once logged into your Product and License Center account, select InstallAnywhere under the Product and File Downloads page section. Then, select the appropriate download link.

* If you have purchased the DVD media for InstallAnywhere, the installation is on the DVD. If this is the case, proceed to step 2

* You may have already obtained the installation if you previously downloaded the evaluation copy of InstallAnywhere. If this is the case, proceed to step 2.

For detailed instructions on how to obtain the InstallAnywhere product through the Product and License Center, see Downloads and Licensing for InstallAnywhere.

Step 2: Obtaining the license file and specifying licensing information

Node-locked licenses: If you purchased a node-locked license of InstallAnywhere, launch InstallAnywhere and use the licensing wizard to configure the license. For detailed instructions on how to do this, see Configuring a Node-Locked License of InstallAnywhere.

Concurrent licenses: If you purchased concurrent licenses of InstallAnywhere, follow these steps:

A. Obtain and install the FlexNet Licensing Server software from the Product and License Center.

B. Generate and download the concurrent license for the FlexNet Licensing Server. For instructions on how to do this, see Obtaining a Concurrent License File for a New FlexNet Licensing Server.

C. Download the appropriate mvsn vendor daemon from the Product and License Center for the FlexNet Licensing Server. Different vendor daemon files are available for different operating systems.

D. Do one of the following, depending on whether you are using lmadmin or lmgrd to manage your concurrent license files:

If you are using lmadmin, copy the mvsn vendor daemon to the same folder that contains the lmadmin.exe file that was installed by the FlexNet Licensing Server software installation. Then import the concurrent license file into the FlexNet Licensing Server software. For instructions on how to do this, see Using the License Server Manager (lmadmin) on a FlexNet Licensing

If you are using lmgrd, pass the location of the mvsn vendor daemon to lmgrd from the command line. Then import the concurrent license file into the FlexNet Licensing Server software. For instructions on how to do this, see Using the License Server Manager (lmgrd) on a FlexNet Licensing Server to Select Concurrent Licenses.

E. Launch InstallAnywhere and use the licensing wizard to identify the FlexNet Licensing Server. For instructions on how to do this, see Connecting a User?s Machine to the License Server for InstallAnywhere License Check-Outs and Check-Ins.

F. If this order is an upgrade for existing concurrent licenses of InstallAnywhere 2008 Value Pack 1, and if you want to be able to use your existing concurrent license of InstallAnywhere on the same machine that has a concurrent license of the new version of the product, download the following update and install it on your machine:

Note: This .zip file contains a ReadMe.txt file that explains how to apply the update.

Without this update, the concurrent license for the new product version will prevent you from being able to use existing concurrent licenses of the earlier versions.

G. If this order is an upgrade for existing concurrent licenses of InstallAnywhere 2009, and if you want to be able to use your existing concurrent license of InstallAnywhere on the same machine that has a concurrent license of the new version of the product, please make sure to download and apply Service Pack 2. Service Pack 2 can be obtained from the Tools > Check for Updates option in the InstallAnywhere IDE.
