Unable to Update Installer's EXE File Properties

Unable to Update Installer's EXE File Properties

Summary

This article discusses InstallAnywhere's limitation on modifying the details for a Windows Installer's exe properties

Symptoms

When a Windows target installer is built, the installer's property values are hardcoded and cannot be customized in InstallAnywhere.
These properties include File Description, File Version, Product Name, Product Version, Copyright, and Language.

This information is displayed on the Properties dialog box for the setup launcher; this Properties dialog box opens when end users right-click the install.exe file and then click Properties. The Properties dialog box is different on different versions of Windows. For example, on Windows 7 systems, the version resource information is displayed on the Details tab of the Properties dialog box. However, on Windows XP systems, the version resource information is displayed on the Version tab of that dialog box. Also note that some versions of Windows do not show some settings on the Properties dialog box.

Resolution

This issue has been submitted to our Engineering team as Issue# IOA-000054496. Our Engineering team is investigating this issue, but at this moment, there is no estimated time frame for when the feature will be implemented.

Workaround

After building the installer, the properties of any executable file can be changed with a resource editor such as Visual Studio.
