Can the Installer Binary be Located in the Root Directory of a CD-ROM/DVD Release?

Summary

Discusses the installer binary's location in the directory structure for CD-ROM installers.

Question

Can the installer binary be located in the root directory of a CD-ROM/DVD release?

Answer

For Build Targets that do not have a With VM option to bundle a VM with the installer (For example, Unix (All) and Other Java-Enabled Platforms), the installer binary will be located in the Disk1/InstData directory. For every other platform that has both With VM or Without VM options, the installer binary will be under a VM or No VM subdirectory inside of the Disk1/InstData directory. This directory structure cannot be changed, that is to say, you cannot move the installer binary from the VM or No VM subdirectory to the Disk1/InstData directory.

Additional Information

In order to allow users to easily find or identify the installer binary instead of having them go into a subdirectory, the following options are available:
  1. Create a script file that launches the installer binary, and place it in the Disk1/InstData directory.
  2. Create a shortcut, link, or alias of the installer binary, and place it in the Disk1/InstData directory.
  3. For Windows, you can create an autorun.inf to make your application AutoRun-enabled. Steps on creating an AutoRun enabled application can be found here.
