Install Anywhere 8.0 Enterprise needs Rosetta on Snow Leopard?
Hi there
A software using IA 8.0 Enterprise Installer reports need to install Rosetta on Mac OS 10.6. Could anybody say, if works correctly if I intall Rosetta? (never used that before)
I would like to know if there is a way to make the installer compatible to Mac OS 10.6 without Rosetta...
Thank You for answers 🙂

SnowLeopard, these are forums destined to people developing installers using IA 8.0 whereas your question deals with a particular software behavior when attempting to install it. In this case the fact that it has been made with IA 8.0 is quite irrelevant, IMHO. You should seek support for this issue you've encountered directly with the company from which you've purchased the software. It's up to them to tell if you if this is legit or not...

I'm the developer of "A software using IA 8.0 Enterprise Installer". Our Customers report this problem with our software and 10.6.
I did not made the old Installer, but I have to solve the issue now. Former devs have leaved the company. I need information from experienced users if it's possible to bring 10.6 and IA 8.0 EP together. ..without Rosetta... before I start to wasting time...with 8.0 (too old?)

Oh, sorry for the confusion. I'm no Mac specialist, but let me see if I've got it right. So the installer created with IA 8, released on August 29, 2006, that according to the Release Notes, supports Mac OS X both on PPC & Intel is run on the latest Mac OS X version that was released 2 weeks ago (August 28, 2009) (so more than 3 years after IA 8). In the process Rosetta, which is the binary translation tool that allowed application compiled for PPC to run on Intel CPUs seems to be needed. So my only guess is that the installer produced with IA 8 is actually a PPC one which is run onto an Intel CPU. Otherwise, what I could suggest is to give a try to a more recent IA version, for instance IA 2009 release notes say that it supports Mac OS X 10.2, 10.3, 10.4, and 10.5 (Intel and PowerPC), and the latest IA version is IA 2009 SP1.

The installer does seem to work if Rosetta is installed. This is required since IA 8 ends up creating a PPC installer, not an Intel one. Previous versions of OS X included Rosetta by default, so this wasn't a problem. It would be very helpful to know if upgrading to the latest version would actually correct this, since OS X 10.6 isn't listed as one of the supported operating systems. Obviously anyone still using version 8 can't have support since the product was end of life'd, I think that the original poster and I were hoping that others may have some additional valid information.
