How to manage instance

I am creating a installer for my project with IA 2011.
Here is a requirement of the installer that:
1. The same version must be restrict to one instance.
2. different subversion can be seen as different version of product.

In another word, there must be one instance of version 1.0.0.1, if user run the installer, installer should be enter maintenance mode; if user run the installer of version 1.0.0.2, then installer should enter the installation process.

I've tried to the following settings, but it dose not work. Anyone can help me? Thanks a million.

Another question is how IA detected the installed instance. Dose it check the .com.zerog.registry.xml file. If yes and if the "Identify Instance Using" setting is set to Installation Location and Version. Is that true IA check the red part of "version="0.1.1.11" copyright="2012" info_url="" support_url="" location="C:\Program Files (x86)\product1\0.1.3.55368" last_modified="2013-07-12 09:17:18">" ?

We are getting the similar issue, when we re-run the setup on the existing install.
"An error occured while trying to manage the selected instance."
We are using IAW 2011 SP3.

We are selecting "Do not limit instances" option.

Please do the needful.
