How do I close an application during uninstall

Is it possible to detect whether a Windows program is running, and close the application before proceeding with uninstall?

Yes, but I'm afraid you'll need custom code, unless of course the application runs as a Windows service, for which there is a built-in management action (you can stop it).

My next question is, what is the licensing policy on these custom code extensions? Can they be used and packaged in commercial applications?
