Determining Effective Borrow Renewal Interval
Summary
Guidelines for determining the effective borrow renewal interval.Question
This article provides guidelines for determining the effective borrow renewal interval.
Answer
Sources for Effective Values
The borrow and renew interval values can be specified in any or all of the following ways, showing here in decreasing order of precendence.:
- Capability request sent from a client
- License model definition
- Back-office server configuration settings (licenseService.defaultBorrowInterval and licenseService.defaultRenewInterval)
- License server configuration settings (licensing.borrowInterval and licensing.renewInterval)
Originally, the second and third sources were not; they were added for CMS v3.
Precedence Rules
The rules for their application are defined in the following table:
Capability Request | License Model | Back-Office Server Setting | License Server Setting | Effective Value |
---|---|---|---|---|
present and smaller | ? | ? | ? | The lesser value of the value in the capability request and the otherwise effective value (as spelled out in the following rows) |
absent or larger | present | ? | ? | The license mode settings are used in this case, if present. |
absent or larger | absent | present | ? | The back-office server configuration settings are used in this case, if non blank. |
absent or larger | absent | blank | required | The license server configuration settings are used in this case. |
Notes
- The same rules apply for both CLS and ULLS..
- The back-office and license server configuration settings default to 1 week for borrow and 15% for renew intervals.
- The back-office configuration settings can be set to a blank value, allowing old style behavior (no values in generated license).
- The license server configuration settings and never used by default (only if back-office settings overridden to blank).
