MAC address not stable as host ID

Jump to solution

We enumerate the host IDs using FlcHostIdsGetIdCount and FlcHostIdsGetId and take the first MAC address, but the problem is that it changed depending on if connected to Internet by Wi-Fi and cable.

That means that if a user activates a license when connected using Wi-Fi and then changes to network cable, the host ID changes and the license is not valid any more.

Any suggestions how to solve this problem? What is better to use than the recommended MAC address?

Using the Ethernet MAC Address is not stable on a Windows system.  A more reliable solution is to create a custom host ID and query the disk serial number of the Windows volume.

In our experience, Ethernet MAC Address is stable on Apple Mac systems.

With Flexnet Embedded XT, you have to manage your own host ID to overcome these issues.  Publisher has a more sophisticated system for querying and managing host IDs.
