  1. How to import storage information to Flexera

Hi we are using ITAM +ITV feature and we want to manage storage information.

However, we don't have discovery sources like ServiceNow/BMC Discovery,

in such a case ,are there any way we can import storage data like importing file etc..?

  2. How to automate the process of sending snowpacks from Standalone Receiver to Master Inventory Server?

We have agents installed in the segregated area and we cannot send snowpacks directly through the Service Gateway to the Master inventory Server. We do it via Standalone Receiver - from where we manually transfer files to Master Inventory Server. Anyone have an idea how to automate this process without installing Service Gateway?

We could probably make a powershell script that would dump data from the Standalone Receiver directory to some shared directory, and then another script on the Master Inventory server would transfer files from the shared directory to the Master Inventory Server directory.

Are there other ways to automate that?

    • Is this other network segregated from the Master Server by lack of network routing of the Master servers port, as if file copying is still open and all it's associated ports the networks are not segregated.

In a truly segregated network it would be USB stick time from one server to another.

Also if file copying is open port wise - you could look to have the files dropped on the Standalone Receiver but also sent by the Agent to a file drop location on your actual master server.

You still need the standalone receiver as at this time the agent can't use the file drop functionality without some form of HTTP(s) response from an INV server of any type

  3. Inventory Agents and Disk Space Usage

Is there anything stopping the logs and scan results of the (Windows) Inventory Agents building up and eventually filling the disk?

    Thanks

The logs, metering files and inventory data all get deleted when the agents packs the data into the snowpack to send.

If this does not get deleted in your case, check the doc to see if there is a config setting that prevents it. Or contact support

  4. Are Windows "environment variables" captured by the Snow Inventory Agent?

If they are not, can they be captured using a config file tweak or any other method? Because we have environment variables set with some useful location information.

And how would I see the environment variables if they can be shown in the Snow Inventory Portal?

    Many Thanks

They are collected by the agent but only in the Inventory DB as fas as I know.

You can find them in the table SnowInventory.inv.DataEnvironmentVariable

You can access them from SLM by creating a custom report

    • Detlev Eufinger (Flexera Software)

      Hi @Craig Thomas

      The setting <Setting key="send.max_scan_result_backlog_count" value="90"/> means:

Whenever a send failure occurs the scan result is keept (locally) until the next send opportunity.

This setting controls the maximum number of results that can be kept around at any given time.

When this limit is reached, the oldest result is delete until the number of scan results are within the allowed limit.

      Default value: 90

    • Thank you, I found it. It came with the last update Snow Inventory 6.5.

  6. User exclusion and device exclusion no longer working.

    Hi all,

Our user exclusion seems to no longer be excluding users. It was working before and I am aware of the need to delete existing users before it will stop appearing on SLM. They seem to be coming through again. our config is as follows

    root,%\root,%NoLoggedOn%,%nobody%,hall.sh.ac.uk\[_]%,[_]%,%/defaultuser0

Most recently we have updated our licence count but have used the same config file just with an updated key.

I'm not aware of anything else that has changed. I've tried changing the list just so it saves again.

Can anyone advise of anywhere to check?

    • Hi David Yes it's the same with the v6 agent too. It can be scripted though to simplify things. Adam
