  1. Clarification on "Incomplete Verified Data" Logic vs. Scanner Requirements

    Hi Everyone,

I’m looking for some clarity on the logic uses to categorize machines under Oracle Verified Data versus Incomplete Verified Data.

Based on current documentation, a machine should move to "Verified" if the scanners executed correctly. However, I’m seeing some confusing behavior. As only have the Java and Hardware Scanners enabled because do not use Oracle Database or Middleware.

Java and Hardware scanners being executed successfully and the machine appearing under the "Oracle Verified Data" view, but it is also being flagged under "Incomplete Verified Data" with the following reasons:

"No data was processed by Snow Inventory Oracle Middleware Scanner"

"No data was processed by Snow Inventory Oracle Database Scanner"

    My Questions:

Is it mandatory to run all four scanners (Java, Hardware, Database, and Middleware) to avoid the "Incomplete" status, even if those technologies don't exist on the target machine?

Has anyone else observed machines appearing in both views simultaneously?

Is this "Incomplete" flag the default behavior when a specific scanner type is omitted, or does it indicate a discrepancy?

    Kind regards,

    Kishan Pant

    Hi Kishan Pant.

Is it mandatory to run all four scanners (Java, Hardware, Database, and Middleware) to avoid the "Incomplete" status, even if those technologies don't exist on the target machine?

    • Yes, if you like to avoid Incomplete status on the target machine, you need to have all scanners deployed and successfully executed. Of course there is an expected use-case where some of the scanners won't provide output data, and that is expected. Regarding the completness on the target machine, before we conclude it's a complete output, it's important for the oracle scanner to be executed.

Has anyone else observed machines appearing in both views simultaneously?

    • Yes, and that's expected based on the product design.
    • The reasoning behind this design is for the user to be aware on which programs are "done" (shown on the "complete verified data" page), and which programs are "still to be done" (shown on the "incomplete verified data" page).

Is this "Incomplete" flag the default behavior when a specific scanner type is omitted, or does it indicate a discrepancy?

    • Yes, it's default behavior when a specific scanner type is omitted.

  2. Has anyone managed to inventory Oracle Database Express Edition 21c?

    Hi all,

Has anyone successfully inventoried Oracle Database Express Edition 21c?

    I am encountering this problem:

ERROR;     Scanning for Oracle data;;;; Information for an Oracle database instance couldn't be collected. SID=XE

    • Or you are not using Java 6,7 or 8 since as far as I understood one if these versions is needed to be able to recognize Database versions 19 and higher.

    • Hello Heiner.  I have personally not heard about this issue before, the oracle scanner is running some SQL queries to retrieve data from the Oracle database, and that should absolutely not take hours.  It is true that the oracle scanner will try to create a file with the scan result, which later will be inclued in the snowpack file together with the rest of the scan data of the Linux computer, but I have not seen that this process fails and initates a new scan.  There should be two logs in the data folder of the inventory agent, sios rotation log 1 and 0.  If you raise the log level to verbose and do another scan and monitor these logs you might get a better clue of exactly what happens. The oracle scanner is pretty detailed in verbose mode. Do you get any error messages at all?

  3. Oracle physical host details not showing
We have Oracle DB on virtual machines and it does not show any details about Physical host that virtual machines is running. The operating system is AIX on IBM AM780 box and we are using Snow Inventory Oracle scanner for scanning. I need to capture physical host details like processor, host cores so is there any way to capture this information? ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌ ‌

  4. How is SIOS detecting the usage of the various Oracle Options?

I have a situation where SLM tells me that Spatial and Graph is being "Used" on one of our instances, but when our DBA runs the "select * from DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS where name = 'Spatial';" command, the output tells us that it is not - and has never been used.

    OS:Linux (Redhat)

    Oracle:11.2.0.3.0

    Agent: 5.2

    SIOS:5.0.1

    • Hi Magnus,  Without having the exact details, it sounds like this could be related to a know issue with the oracle agent which is currently being worked on. It seems that the feature Locator can trigger the Spatial and Graph recognition for some versions of Oracle DB:s.  (Reference to problem ID: PRB0041743.) I would recommend that you file a ticket with the support to have this verified.  You will also be notified when the issue is solved.
