DavidH asked a question.
Since installing SLM 9.20.1 we're finding that SLM is down every morning. The first users to access the site just get a runtime error. This looks very similar to a problem we had last year with SLM 9.9.
I've logged a support ticket, but I wondered if this is a common problem? I don't want to upgrade another server to 9.20.1 if we're going to get the same problem.
It's quite painful to work around, it often takes several service restarts and iisresets before the system comes back online.
This is the error message (seen from the actual server):
Anybody else getting the same problem? Thank you!
Hey David,
Are you seeing any activation errors in your Web Logs?
Hi Laim,
Sorry for the slow reply. Actually, no ... there are no "activation" type messages in the Web Logs. I'm guessing this is another problem, just it seems to happen first thing in the morning. It does look like it's something to do with fetching the DUJ status. We have an automated script that gets the DUJ status from the Web API and that also fails at the moment. So that seems to match. It doesn't seem to impact many people though.
Thanks! David
Hi David,
I'm finding the same - my single SLM 9.20.1 server instance fails to load on a morning with the same runtime error (both in the browser and the logs). I can't even log into the SMACC console instance directly on our SLM VM either (gives me access denied with the correct credentials).
However I have noticed that it typically comes back to life late morning to lunchtime without intervention. I've ended up with some very long SQL DUJs (now taking around 19-22 hours to complete) which I had assumed was the cause of the runtime error but have changed the frequency of the DUJs and the same runtime error seems to occur when they're not running.
I hadn't seen much of this error prior to this upgrade but then again my own SLM & SinvM instances haven't been the most reliable over the last year so I may have other reasons that this error has been occurring.
Thanks @Cameron Douglas that does seem to match what's happening for me. It's not sounding like a common problem, but it's good to know we're not the only ones to have this error. I think it's the same for us, if we leave things alone then SLM will come back online after a few hours. But it's very frustrating. I will try and update this thread if I get some news from my support ticket. It's quite likely that will take some time though.
Have you tried changing the time of your DUJ? I'm wondering what would happen if you moved your DUJ from 9pm (the default) to 6pm, just a thought...
Hi David,
I only can say, we do run 9.20.1 for several weeks and we did not have this problem, neither in Prod nor in test.
So this is not a common problem.

From your message it looks like perhaps the DUJ status is not reachable.
Thanks @Carola Iberl I'm glad this is not common. It does seem like it's the DUJ status check that causes the problem. Hopefully we will get some traction with our ticket. Thanks for the info.
